India destroys 8 missiles fired by Pakistan towards Jammu; Blackout in Jammu and nearby

India’s air defence systems on Thursday night destroyed eight Pakistani missiles targeting key locations in Jammu, including Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia sectors. According to official sources, the missiles were intercepted mid-air by India’s S-400 air defence units, preventing damage to any civilian or military infrastructure. A complete blackout was enforced in parts of Udhampur and Jammu to support ongoing aerial defence operations.

Alongside the missile strikes, multiple drone intrusions were reported. Two drones were shot down near Jammu University, while three others were intercepted over Jammu city, Pathankot, and Udhampur. One drone reportedly hit Jammu airport. Another drone was seen in Sujanpur near Pathankot, where it was shot down by the Indian Army. Explosions were heard in parts of Jammu, and a blast was also reported in Jaisalmer.

The coordinated air and drone strike by Pakistan was launched hours after India had carried out precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor on May 7. The Defence Ministry had earlier stated that the operation was “focused, measured and non-escalatory,” and clarified that Pakistani military establishments had not been targeted.

Following Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes, the Indian Armed Forces launched fresh operations targeting Pakistani air defence radars and systems. According to an official statement, Indian strikes were conducted on multiple locations, including the reported neutralisation of an air defence unit in Lahore. Security agencies are recovering missile and drone debris across several Indian locations as evidence of the attacks.

Amid heightened tensions, the Jammu and Kashmir Police issued an advisory urging citizens to remain indoors and switch off all lights during the blackout period. The public was asked to avoid unnecessary travel and refrain from sharing unverified information. Heavy mortar and artillery shelling by Pakistan was also reported along the Line of Control in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri. Sixteen civilians, including three women and five children, have reportedly died in these attacks. The Defence Ministry stated, “Here too, India was compelled to respond to bring Mortar and Artillery fire from Pakistan to a halt.”

There was a drone attack in Jammu and Kashmir for about 35 minutes. There has been no loss of life or property in this attack by Pakistan. Nor has anyone been injured. This attack took place from 8:45 pm to 9:15-20 pm.
